Pluralis Research is a foundational AI research lab focused on Protocol Learning — decentralized, multi‑participant training of foundation models where no single participant holds a full copy of the model. The group develops methods to enable communication‑efficient model and pipeline parallelism, unextractable collaborative models, and high‑compression context parallelism so community‑trained, community‑owned frontier models can scale over low‑bandwidth, internet‑connected devices. Their work targets practical systems and algorithms that make decentralized training competitive with centralized training while enabling new ownership and economic models.

📋 Description

• Design, build, and ship a well-scoped project on the Agora roadmap • Present the completed project to the engineering and research teams • Build and improve multiprocessing, async I/O, and threading components within a production distributed training stack • Work hands-on with large-scale training infrastructure across AWS and GCP • Contribute to the production codebase daily • Collaborate with the Agora team through code review and mentorship • Work on Agora, Pluralis Research's production decentralized training system

🎯 Requirements

• Current enrollment in, or recent completion of, a Masters or PhD in machine learning, computer science, or a related field • Strong Python and PyTorch skills • Experience building concurrent or parallel systems using multiprocessing, async I/O, and threading • Hands-on exposure to distributed machine learning via internship, coursework, or serious projects • Experience with AWS, GCP, or other hyperscalers • Belief that Protocol Learning is the viable third path for collective, trustless, and sovereign AI • Professional-level English proficiency, written and spoken • Australia-based candidates only • Top-tier ML publications are welcome but not required for systems-focused candidates • Open-source contributions to ML frameworks, distributed systems, or networking libraries are nice to have
