📋 Description

• Research and write timely stories covering space exploration, astronomy, scientific discoveries, major missions, celestial events, and the commercial space industry • Produce news coverage, analysis, explainers, features, and other editorial content for a broad audience • Follow NASA, space agencies, research institutions, observatories, commercial space companies, and wider industry developments to identify story angles • Monitor scientific journals, research papers, agency announcements, Google, MSN, Flipboard, SmartNews, competitor publications, and other sources for stories and emerging topics • Research and verify facts, statistics, quotations, scientific claims, and technical information using credible sources • Contact scientists, researchers, paper authors, astronomers, engineers, and other experts for quotes, interviews, and context • Select high-quality visuals while following copyright and attribution requirements • Write compelling headlines and optimise stories for digital audiences using subheadings, metadata, links, and SEO best practices • Collaborate with editors on story angles, structure, sourcing, clarity, accuracy, and presentation • Manage multiple assignments, maintain output and editorial quality, and meet publishing deadlines • Maintain Starlust’s editorial voice, accuracy standards, and quality expectations • Remain flexible and responsive during launches, mission developments, discoveries, celestial events, and breaking space news

🎯 Requirements

• Strong experience as a writer, journalist, reporter, or science writer • Strong interest in and understanding of space exploration, astronomy, science, NASA, commercial space companies, and related developments • Excellent news judgment and ability to identify timely, relevant, and compelling story angles • Strong research and fact-checking skills, including working with scientific papers, official announcements, agency sources, and credible reporting • Ability to translate complex subjects into clear, engaging social content • Strong organisational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet publishing deadlines • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with the wider editorial team • Relevant work samples required, including resume and links to social media work, portfolio, published content, managed social accounts, or other relevant digital work samples
