📋 Description

• Write and maintain custom backends and drivers for OpenStack Ironic, Cinder, Nova, and Neutron • Target bare metal provisioning and lifecycle automation at data-center scale • Own driver development through design, code review, testing, deployment, and operational health • Contribute improvements and bug fixes to upstream OpenStack projects • Collaborate with infrastructure, networking, and storage teams to shape driver behavior • Architect integrations between OpenStack services and internal DCIM/IPAM systems such as NetBox or Nautobot • Establish standards for testing, error handling, observability, and upgrade safety • Investigate production incidents, lead root-cause analysis, and implement durable fixes • Provide technical leadership and mentorship on OpenStack internals and bare metal infrastructure • Evaluate upstream OpenStack developments and recommend platform adoption • Lead technical decisions, propose architecture, drive cross-team alignment, and review engineering work

🎯 Requirements

• Immediate Joiners only • Ten or more years of software development experience • At least four years of hands-on production work with OpenStack • Deep working knowledge of at least two of: Ironic, Cinder, Nova, or Neutron, including driver interfaces, plugin architectures, and internal request flows • Demonstrated experience writing, debugging, or extending OpenStack drivers or backends in a production environment • Strong Python skills, including async patterns, pytest, tox, and OpenStack SDK/client libraries • Five or more years working in Linux/Unix environments, including systems-level debugging and network troubleshooting • Experience operating services in Kubernetes or similar container orchestration environments • Understanding of bare metal provisioning concepts: PXE, IPMI/Redfish, BMC management, network boot workflows, and hardware lifecycle states • Familiarity with oslo.config, oslo.messaging, oslo.db, Keystone authentication, and service deployment patterns • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and test automation for OpenStack or infrastructure software • Working knowledge of VLANs, bonding, LACP, routing, and DHCP/PXE interaction • Strong distributed-systems debugging and observability skills, including log analysis, tracing, and metric-driven incident investigation • Ability to drive complex technical work from ambiguous requirements to production-grade outcomes • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to write design documents and present technical proposals • Effective collaboration in a globally distributed engineering organization • Strong sense of ownership for production services and drivers • Prior upstream OpenStack contribution is highly desirable • Familiarity with Gerrit, Zuul CI, OpenStack Discuss, and contributor guidelines is highly desirable • Experience with Ceph or other distributed storage systems is highly desirable • Proficiency in Go is highly desirable • Experience with NetBox or Nautobot APIs is highly desirable • Exposure to hardware attestation, secure boot, or firmware management is highly desirable • Experience with network automation tooling or SDN integration is highly desirable
