📋 Description

• Provide technical direction across two engineering teams and connected domains • Design scalable distributed solutions across frontend and backend • Facilitate architectural decisions and make data-driven trade-offs around performance, security, reliability, maintainability, and cost • Identify risks extending beyond individual teams • Remain hands-on across frontend and backend using React and Java • Shape customer-facing checkout experiences and scalable backend capabilities • Influence solutions from discovery and system design through implementation and production • Help establish foundations for future native iOS and Android checkout experiences • Drive architecture, performance, security, testing, observability, and reliability practices • Develop reusable patterns, guidelines, and platform capabilities • Align Checkout, Payments, Orders, Shipping, and dependent teams • Mentor engineers and facilitate architecture and design discussions • Partner with Product, UX, and engineering leadership on technical strategy • Use data, metrics, and industry trends to prioritize high-impact investments and technology decisions

🎯 Requirements

• Deep, hands-on full-stack engineering expertise with React and Java • Production ownership across customer-facing frontend applications and backend services • Ability to reason across architecture, performance, security, reliability, and maintainability • Staff/Principal-level experience or equivalent technical scope • Experience designing complex distributed systems • Experience driving architectural decisions affecting multiple teams or domains • Experience leading through influence and growing other engineers • Ability to mentor experienced engineers and facilitate architecture and design discussions • Experience introducing engineering standards • Strong business and product judgment • Ability to work with Product, UX, Security, SRE, and engineering stakeholders • Ability to use metrics and evidence to guide decisions • Experience with checkout, payments, orders, e-commerce, or marketplace systems is a strong plus • Exposure to native Android/Kotlin or iOS/Swift development is valuable
