📋 Description

• Own major features end to end with the design team, from decision through release • Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features • Write code, review pull requests, and provide constructive feedback • Unblock engineers and investigate issues directly • Standardize successful implementations for team-wide use • Maintain tested, clear, and consolidated shared components • Lead changes to team processes • Reduce manual intervention required for correct releases • Address recurring problems by improving underlying systems • Shift verification left through increased automated checks • Run planning and focus team attention on unresolved decisions • Define appropriate review levels and sign-off requirements • Participate in Product, Design, and Engineering discussions • Handle critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA • Support early-career engineers with learning opportunities • Work hands-on as a Team Lead for Speechify's Android text-to-speech app

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including time leading a team or owning a major surface while staying hands-on • Rock solid Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work • Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing them, including what can't be covered by them • Experience introducing practices or systems that remain adopted by a team • Comfort asking people to change how they work and managing resulting friction • Ability to determine which changes need heavy review and which do not • Track record of building things used by the wider team • Ability to describe how the team works with AI agents • Product design intuition, user empathy, and drive to improve Android UI/UX • Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the specification • Excellent communication skills • Several technical interviews plus an assessment on a real codebase • Portfolio and LinkedIn links requested • Bonus: Building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects • Bonus: Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS
