📋 Description

• Own major Android features end to end, from decisions through release, working closely with Design • Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features • Review pull requests and provide developmental feedback • Unblock engineers and resolve team impediments • Standardize shared solutions and consolidate duplicate implementations • Keep shared code tested, clear, and maintainable • Lead changes to team processes • Reduce manual intervention required for correct releases • Address recurring problems by improving underlying systems • Expand automated verification and shift testing earlier in development • Run planning and focus team attention on unresolved decisions • Define review requirements and approval ownership • Participate in Product, Design, and Engineering discussions • Handle critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA • Support early-career engineers with learning opportunities • Complete technical interviews and a real-codebase assessment as part of the hiring process

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including time leading a team or owning a major surface while staying hands-on • Rock solid Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work • Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing them, including what can't be covered by them • Experience introducing a change or practice that was adopted by a team • Comfort asking people to change how they work and managing the resulting friction • Ability to determine which changes need heavy review and which do not • Track record of building things the rest of the team used • Ability to describe how the team works with AI agents • Product design intuition, user empathy, and drive to improve Android UI/UX • Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the specification • Excellent communication skills • Open source Android project experience (bonus) • Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (bonus)
