Beschreibung

• Lead a domain of 6–10 teams comprising roughly 60–90 engineers. • Manage the Engineering Managers responsible for day-to-day team leadership and report to the Director of Engineering. • Coach and develop Engineering Managers and senior/lead engineers in technical judgement, people leadership, and career growth. • Structure and restructure teams to address skill or capacity gaps and avoid key-person dependencies. • Maintain a consistent standard for high-performing teams and address sustained under-performance. • Build hiring and retention capability, including enabling Engineering Managers to hire effectively and creating growth and mobility paths. • Act as the first escalation point for delivery and technical issues across teams. • Coordinate workstreams, delegate decisions with clear boundaries, and follow through on execution. • Partner with Product and commercial stakeholders on metrics, scope, trade-offs, and durable missions. • Apply team-topology principles to shape team boundaries and interaction patterns. • Stay sufficiently close to technical detail to assess architecture and identify drift without being hands-on. • Protect software quality against deadline pressure. • Drive operational maturity in testing, observability, and incident response. • Build evidence-based business cases for replatforming, team re-formation, and headcount investment. • Represent the domain to engineering peers, Product, commercial stakeholders, and senior leadership. • Connect technical work to user and business outcomes.

🎯 Anforderungen

• Track record of managing managers, such as Engineering Managers or equivalent senior technical leads, across a comparable multi-team domain. • Strong technical grounding sufficient for technical conversations, architectural sense-checking, and intervention across legacy and modern systems. • Evidence-based leadership using delivery and quality data to make decisions and build buy-in. • Ability to constructively challenge upward when supported by evidence. • Genuine partnership with Product and commercial stakeholders, with fluency in business and user outcomes. • Ability to operate credibly as a peer to senior non-engineering stakeholders. • Coaching orientation focused on delegation and follow-through. • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to create clarity for teams. • Public sector, health, housing, or regulated-environment experience is nice to have. • Experience leading team restructuring or organisational change is nice to have. • Exposure to legacy modernisation alongside greenfield delivery is nice to have. • Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering practices is nice to have. • Awareness of Developer Experience principles is nice to have. • Experience in environments where engineers own production services is nice to have. • Experience working with globally distributed teams is nice to have.
