📋 Description

• Author original, technically rigorous free-response problems based on realistic mechanical and product-design scenarios • Develop questions requiring advanced engineering reasoning and incorporating design constraints, manufacturing considerations, tolerances, and engineering trade-offs • Create CAD-based mechanical and product-design scenarios involving GD&T, tolerance stacks, DFM, drawing creation, review, revision, and release • Write complete expert-level solutions documenting assumptions, calculations, design reasoning, methodology, manufacturability, tolerances, interfaces, and production requirements • Test authored problems against multiple frontier language models • Evaluate AI responses for reasoning errors, design mistakes, and incomplete technical approaches • Refine problems to maintain an appropriately demanding difficulty level • Validate that problems meaningfully test advanced mechanical-design expertise • Participate in engineering problem authoring, expert solution development, technical validation, and AI model evaluation

🎯 Requirements

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Design, or a closely related discipline is required • At least 5 years of hands-on professional or industry experience in production design roles • Direct ownership of mechanical designs through development and production release • Strong practical expertise in CAD and mechanical design • Extensive experience with GD&T and tolerance stack analysis • Hands-on knowledge of design for manufacturability • Experience creating, reviewing, and releasing engineering drawings • Strong technical writing and analytical communication skills • Substantial hands-on industry or production-design experience complementing doctoral research • CSWP or CSWE certification is nice to have • Advanced CAD expertise using professional mechanical design platforms is nice to have • Experience performing complex tolerance analyses is nice to have • Strong knowledge of GD&T standards and drawing practices is nice to have • Background working with manufacturing, suppliers, quality, and production teams is nice to have • Experience resolving design-for-manufacturing issues during product development is nice to have • Prior experience authoring engineering assessments, technical problems, or training materials is nice to have • Familiarity with AI models or structured technical evaluation is nice to have • Candidates must have hands-on production-design experience; experience limited to analysis or simulation without design ownership is unlikely to match the requirements
