• Join AECOM's U.S. West Rockies Environmental Planning and Permitting team as an experienced on-call paleontologist • Perform paleontological fieldwork and field monitoring for project-based needs • Provide taxonomic identification of vertebrate and/or invertebrate fossils to genus- or species-level • Direct field recovery of fossil specimens • Prepare strong, concise technical reports and conduct research • Manage paleontological data • Travel and conduct fieldwork throughout the Western U.S. • Work with crew members, supervisors, clients, and AECOM's global technical practice network • Participate in projects delivering sustainable environmental solutions
• Bachelor's degree in paleontology or a related field such as geology or biology • 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education focused on paleontological fieldwork and technical reports • Paleontological fieldwork experience in the Western U.S. • Ability to provide taxonomic identification of vertebrate and/or invertebrate fossils to genus- or species-level • Expertise in field monitoring operations • Strong, concise writing, research, and data management skills • Ability to travel and conduct fieldwork throughout the Western U.S. • Ability to walk/trek over uneven terrain and long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended periods • Valid U.S. driver's license • Ability to travel to job sites safely • U.S. Citizenship required • M.S. or Ph.D. in Paleontology or related field preferred • 6+ years of relevant paleontology experience preferred • Dual qualification in Archaeology preferred • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations preferred • Knowledge of regional geology of the Western U.S. preferred • Ability to direct field recovery of fossil specimens preferred • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision preferred • Ability to read topographic, geological, and project maps preferred • Ability to work cooperatively with crew members, supervisors, and clients preferred • Relocation is not available
