📋 Description

• Research, write, and edit technical reports, magazine features, newsletters, fact sheets, brochures, user manuals, and other research communications products. • Collaborate with engineers, researchers, and subject matter experts to translate complex technical and engineering concepts for technical and general audiences. • Perform substantive editing, copyediting, and proofreading throughout production. • Verify technical accuracy through interviews, research, and fact-checking, integrating tables, schematics, and figures with narrative text. • Ensure content conforms to the GPO Style Manual, Chicago Manual of Style, and TFHRC RD&T Communication Reference Guide. • Maintain Section 508 accessibility compliance and manage copyright permissions and attributions. • Manage assigned documents and articles from outlines and interviews through review cycles and final publication, maintaining version control. • Coordinate review and approval with FHWA contacts and external stakeholders when necessary.

🎯 Requirements

• 5–10 years of professional experience in technical writing, editing, and publishing. • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Journalism, or a related scientific/technical field. • Demonstrated expertise applying the GPO Style Manual and Chicago Manual of Style. • Experience ensuring Section 508 accessibility compliance. • Experience supporting complex projects and transformation efforts within the federal government. • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance. • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. • Ability to manage competing deadlines. • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. • Comfort supporting complex client relationships. • Transportation-sector, particularly highway or surface transportation research, experience highly preferred. • Strong analytical and time-management skills. • Ability to organize, prioritize, collaborate, and communicate logically in writing and orally. • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment. • Ability to receive feedback and implement changes quickly and effectively. • Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues.
