📋 Description

• Own the end-to-end ground segment architecture, including SCC, FDS, mission planning, mission database, data archive, networks and security • Build and ready the Mission Control Center, including facility, consoles, servers, networks, redundancy and backup control capability • Establish ground station connectivity with commercial and government providers worldwide • Own space link security, including encryption, authentication and key management • Design reusable ground tooling for a fleet and concurrent missions • Define make/buy decisions and procure, adapt or develop ground software • Manage SCC and FDS procurement, supplier contracts, technical evaluations and supplier development • Flow customer requirements into supplier specifications and contracts • Adapt and configure procured ground products for spacecraft missions • Direct in-house ground software development as the technical customer • Own verification, documentation, configuration control, quality, acceptance testing, licensing and sustainment • Deliver SCC and FDS to customers, including installation, commissioning, site acceptance, documentation and formal acceptance • Train and certify customer operations teams and support transition to routine operations • Coordinate export-control authorization for software and technical-data transfers • Lead customer ground-segment design and acceptance reviews • Develop operations concepts, procedures, flight rules and contingency plans • Plan and staff LEOP, electric orbit raising and in-orbit test operations • Lead anomaly investigation, recovery, reporting and corrective changes • Recruit, train and supervise the flight operations and ground systems teams • Manage subcontracted operations support

🎯 Requirements

• B.S. or M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline • 10+ years in satellite ground segment and/or mission operations • Demonstrated ownership of a ground segment architecture, including the satellite control center (SCC) and flight dynamics system (FDS) • Experience procuring and managing ground software suppliers through development, acceptance and sustainment • Experience delivering a ground system to an external customer as a contract deliverable • Experience working back-to-back between customer and supplier contracts • Hands-on experience adapting a commercial SCC or FDS product to a specific spacecraft • Experience directing in-house software development as the technical customer • Experience standing up a mission control center or major ground system from scratch • Experience running or supporting LEOP and in-orbit test • Experience integrating with commercial or government ground station networks worldwide • Experience building and training an operations team • Supervisory experience hiring, setting objectives and developing engineers • Ability to lead customer-facing design reviews and hold technical authority • Working knowledge of command and telemetry link security and key management • Strong plus: GEO communications satellites, electric orbit raising, multi-spacecraft or multi-mission operations, spacecraft handover, CCSDS and ECSS standards • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or have refugee/asylee status; temporary work visas are not accepted
