• Conduct sanitation and compliance inspections of assigned dairy farms, plants, and other regulated establishments • Enforce state and federal laws, rules, regulations, the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance, and the Code of Federal Regulations • Collect and review samples, sanitation practices, records, product labels, environmental swabs, raw milk, glycol, and water • Observe employees for adherence to health, food sanitation, and GMP requirements • Advise dairy firm managers and personnel on health and food sanitation regulations • Notify supervisors of imminent hazards, violations, minimum-standard failures, and significant changes • Review plans and specifications for new or renovated food establishments and consult with owners or builders • Submit license applications, documents, fees, agency forms, federal forms, FDA contracts, mileage reports, and expense reports • Brief responsible dairy personnel on inspection findings and corrective actions • Issue stop-sale orders or witness voluntary destruction of adulterated, contaminated, or misbranded food • Maintain State-issued equipment and enforcement ratings • Examine plant records for compliance with specialized training and documentation requirements • Distribute samples to laboratories, ensure sample integrity, and complete collection reports • Conduct follow-up inspections, re-sampling, and corrective actions after laboratory analyses • Supervise environmental-swab collection when applicable • Attend meetings, conferences, and training courses and perform other assigned duties
• Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Animal Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related area from an accredited college or university, or certification as a Registered Sanitarian or Environmental Health Specialist, depending on level • Agriculture Compliance Specialist 2: one year of experience conducting inspections and investigations for compliance, or one year at the Agriculture Compliance Specialist 1 level or equivalent • Agriculture Compliance Specialist 3: two years of experience conducting inspections and investigations for compliance, or one year at the Agriculture Compliance Specialist 2 level or equivalent • Ability to complete advanced training in specialized processing operations • High degree of organization and record-keeping skills • Knowledge of current policies, laws, regulations, and developments in the field • Ability to read, interpret, communicate, and apply policy directives • Ability to complete agency, State, and Federal forms and electronic database records • Ability to meet physical demands including constant standing/walking, climbing stairs, water exposure, temperature variation, and long travel days • Applicants qualifying based on college credit must submit a college transcript • Satisfactory employment verification, background, criminal records investigation, and motor vehicle reports required for hiring
