📋 Description

• Advise product, engineering, and trust & safety teams on content safety, consumer protection, intellectual property, privacy, data security, and industry regulations • Provide product counseling for web hosting, site creation, content publication, ecommerce, social media, and related products • Advise on data protection and privacy laws including GDPR and CCPA • Advise on consent frameworks for digital marketing and advertising • Build scalable compliance documentation processes • Track and prepare for upcoming regulations • Participate in industry groups globally and represent Automattic before regulators and government agencies • Work with trust & safety teams on freedom of expression and user safety policies • Design legal-team compliance processes and workflows

🎯 Requirements

• JD from a US accredited law school with 5+ years of relevant experience (or an exception EU-based attorney) • Familiarity with open source, user-generated content, web hosting, social media, ecommerce, digital advertising, and related product, privacy, and regulatory requirements • Ability to function independently and work in an asynchronous environment • Willingness and ability to stretch into areas like litigation or IP if needed • Ability to provide recommendations and clear thinking with imperfect information • Familiarity with DSA, UK and Australian Online Safety Acts, EU AI Act, and worldwide age-assurance laws is a major plus
