📋 Description

• Produce articles with excellent introductions and ledes capturing important elements of elections and political stories • Build and manage assigned articles according to Ballotpedia’s writing guidelines and quality levels • Monitor breaking news daily and make timely article updates based on reader value • Quickly develop new articles in response to news • Contribute to Ballotpedia’s newsletter products • Use and generate complex procedure checklist documentation for key tasks • Keep the managing editor informed about project progress • Learn and master Ballotpedia’s taxonomy of bias • Interact professionally, helpfully, and pleasantly with co-workers, customers, and media • Conduct extensive research using media and political websites, official government sources, and direct person-to-person outreach • Write about complex political topics in a neutral, clear, and concise manner

🎯 Requirements

• Passion for Ballotpedia’s mission • Knowledge of the United States political system • Experience working in databases and spreadsheets • Experience in writing and/or editing • Interest in or experience using AI tools to increase productivity • Superb organizational skills and attention to detail • Ability and desire to work collaboratively with staff across departments • Comfort seeking and responding to feedback • Drive for innovation and flexibility • Ability to identify and solve problems proactively • Self-awareness and commitment to constant improvement • Excellent writing, proofreading, and organizational skills • Familiarity with style guides, including AP Stylebook-based guidelines • Computer with Internet access • Authorization to work in the U.S. if hired, verified through E-Verify • Résumé, cover letter, and neutral writing sample under five pages for application
