• Oversee daily operations of the Trauma Registry for Boston Medical Center’s Level I Adult Trauma Center • Supervise five trauma registrars and direct daily workflow • Ensure accurate and timely trauma data abstraction, ICD-10 coding, data entry, and report generation • Maintain data integrity through concurrent abstraction, validation, audits, and audit readiness • Manage trauma registry software with the vendor and BMC ITS • Implement updates from ACS, TQIP, NTDB, and Massachusetts DPH • Provide clinical expertise, staff training, and ongoing education in AIS and ICD-10-CM coding • Lead TQIP participation and required education activities • Support ACS and Massachusetts DPH trauma center verification and designation activities • Coordinate and support the monthly Trauma Multidisciplinary Committee • Prepare, analyze, and validate quarterly TQIP and Massachusetts DPH reports • Prepare performance improvement reports for the Trauma Service, JCAHO, ACS, and state and national registries • Identify database enhancements and collaborate with BMC IT, vendors, agencies, and EMS systems • Analyze trauma data with clinical teams to identify trends and support performance improvement and operational decisions • Coordinate trauma registry data for grants, publications, injury prevention initiatives, and research projects • Represent the BMC Trauma Program at state, regional, and national meetings • Coordinate staff scheduling and time-off requests • Ensure HIPAA and BMC confidentiality compliance and secure patient-information handling • Perform related duties supporting operational, regulatory, and quality improvement needs
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required • Knowledge and proficiency in medical terminology and anatomy required • Current Commonwealth of Massachusetts Registered Nurse License required by the hire date • Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry Certification (CSTR) required by the hire date • Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist certification (CAISS) required by the hire date • Must successfully complete or have previously completed the American Trauma Society’s Trauma Registry Course or equivalent within 12 months of hire • Must successfully complete or have previously completed the Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine’s Injury Scaling (AAIS) Course within 12 months of hire • Experience with ICD-10-CM inpatient coding required • Proficient in ICD-10, AAAM coding, AIS/ISS scoring, and TRISS scoring • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook • Advanced medical terminology knowledge required • Advanced anatomy and physiology knowledge required • Strong written and oral communication skills • Strong time management and organizational skills • Demonstrated computer skills • Ability to multitask, prioritize, meet deadlines, and problem-solve complex work assignments • Knowledge of how errors impact users, databases, and applications
