Child Trends is a nonprofit research organization that studies and informs policy and practice to improve the well‑being of children and families. It conducts applied research, data analysis, and evaluation on topics including early childhood development, child welfare and foster care, family health, poverty, and education, and provides technical assistance, capacity building, and strategic communications to government agencies and other stakeholders.

📋 Description

• Support multiple Early Childhood research projects simultaneously under staff supervision • Gather data and information from study participants and stakeholders • Develop project materials and data collection tools • Administer surveys and questionnaires and conduct interviews • Compile research results • Recruit and follow up with study participants • Schedule interviews, focus groups, and meetings • Take and summarize notes for teams, clients, and stakeholders • Assist with scheduling, participant incentives, budget tracking, progress reports, and mailings • Conduct observations, interviews, surveys, and other data collection • Support literature reviews by collecting and synthesizing research • Tabulate and maintain study data; perform data entry, data cleaning, and quality checks • Develop tables and graphs • Conduct basic quantitative analyses using Stata, R, or other statistical packages • Analyze qualitative data using Dedoose, NVivo, and basic thematic coding • Organize project files and track deadlines

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in one of the social sciences • Demonstrated ability to perform beginning-level research in a social science field • Strong detail orientation and written and verbal communication skills • Experience with literature reviews • Excellent writing skills, including communicating complex information for general audiences • Excellent task management and organizational skills • Strong communication skills for collaborative work • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities • Ability to provide and take direction • All candidates must be authorized to work in the US • Background check required at hire, contingent upon results • Resume/CV, cover letter, brief writing sample, and three professional references required • Two to three years of applied research experience outside college courses may qualify for the Senior Research Assistant level • Experience with early childhood research or policy, applied research settings, Spanish-language research, and Stata/R are desired but not required
