📋 Description

• Investigate and recommend specific grants from a $100 million exploratory grantmaking budget • Conduct desk research to assess potential strategies • Build back-of-the-envelope models estimating social returns and grant cost-effectiveness • Interview domain experts and work with potential grantees to answer key questions • Synthesize conclusions and recommendations in writing for senior leadership • Rigorously evaluate and synthesize academic evidence relevant to grantmaking • Help set strategy for AI and global health and wellbeing grantmaking • Identify promising opportunities and propose evaluation approaches • Own grants that are ambiguous or novel, depending on role emphasis • Support grants addressing serious risks from transformative AI and scaling AI-enabled health and economic solutions

🎯 Requirements

• At least three years of relevant professional experience or equivalent experience in academia • Interest in AI’s implications for global health and wellbeing • Views on how AI could change health and economic outcomes in low- and middle-income countries • Strong quantitative ability, including back-of-the-envelope calculations • Pragmatism and ability to make and justify reasonable estimates with limited data • Ability to prioritize important questions and make concrete conclusions • Strong written communication and reasoning transparency • Strong listening ability and epistemic judgment • Ability to interview academics, policymakers, and practitioners in unfamiliar areas • Comfort with opportunity costs and prioritization • Flexibility to work across a range of topics • Research Fellow candidates typically have a master’s or PhD in a quantitative discipline related to social science or public health • Relevant backgrounds may include policy research, strategy consulting, academia, social science, public health, AI, or international development • Willingness to work occasional flexible calls across U.S. and European time zones • Candidates must have or obtain appropriate work authorization for their location; U.S. work authorization sponsorship may be considered
