📋 Description

• Support the Penguin Random House Christian division across WaterBrook, Multnomah, Align Insight, Forum Books, and Image imprints • Work on hardcover and trade paperback titles, including hardcover-to-paperback conversions and original titles, some with 4-color content • Report to the Executive Managing Editor/Copy Chief • Work closely with editorial, design, managing editorial, and production groups • Supervise freelance copy editors, cold readers, proofreaders, sluggers, and indexers • Provide production editorial expertise from copyedit through completed printed books and e-pub files • Work with editors and authors to ensure the quality of books beginning with copyedit • Schedule and assign freelance editorial work • Review freelancers’ work and authors’ changes and input corrections into Word documents or Adobe Acrobat PDFs • Interact with authors to resolve queries and ensure final products meet expectations • Manage an assigned list of production editorial work, including copyediting, cold reading, and proofreading • Keep books on schedule and error-free through all production stages • Ensure consistent house style and apply The Chicago Manual of Style 18th Edition • Review e-pub files before finalization • Proofread cover copy, jackets, bound galleys, ARE covers, back ads, and reprint corrections • Code/tag manuscripts for design, typesetting, and e-pubs • Resolve production editorial problems under supervision • Create timelines and troubleshoot project concerns with cross-functional teams • Provide feedback to freelancers • Perform other related duties as assigned or required

🎯 Requirements

• Comprehensive understanding of Christian theology and Bible scripture is essential • A minimum of 5 years of trade publishing experience in production editorial, including freelancing • Exceptional copyediting and proofreading skills • Outstanding ability to prioritize in a deadline-driven environment • Excellent time management skills • Ability to accommodate quickly shifting schedules and deadlines • Working knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style 18th Edition and Merriam-Webster 12th Edition • Very detail-oriented, with strong communication and writing skills • Ability to work independently and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, especially the track changes function • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat PDF markup • Expertise with FileMaker Pro is a plus • Experience working with 4-color art preferred • Résumé and cover letter required for application
