📋 Description

• Perform field visits to collect data on utility poles and electrical infrastructure • Design overhead and underground electric distribution systems • Prepare construction drawings, bills of materials, and documentation • Provide pole loading, voltage drop, easement validation, permitting, and cost-estimating calculations • Conduct pole analysis modeling and GIS reviews • Develop materials lists and prepare or update design prints • Support pre-construction activities and answer design and site-related questions • Review client records, GIS data, and field information to identify conflicts and verify accuracy • Lead junior technicians through data collection, drafting, and utility design standards • Manage multiple projects while meeting quality, schedule, and client expectations • Apply company safety rules, client standards, and regulatory requirements including RUS, NESC, and permitting • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and construction crews in walkdowns and coordination meetings • Work independently while maintaining strong communication and documentation practices

🎯 Requirements

• 2–5 years of experience in a design technician, engineering technician, or utility design role • Foundational experience in utility distribution network design, overhead/underground layouts, pole line design, etc. • Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar drafting/design software • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and utility standards • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office • Client-facing experience and strong communication skills • Willingness to travel for fielding assignments, as needed • Experience in gas and/or electric distribution design preferred • Experience with DDS design software tools preferred • Knowledge of GIS systems such as SmallWorld or Bentley Utility Designer preferred • Associate degree or advanced technical degree in a related field preferred • Experience mentoring junior technicians preferred • Strong attention to detail, quality, and safety practices • Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s or better in Electrical Engineering
