Environmental Protection Network is a nonprofit network that harnesses the expertise of over 750 former EPA career staff and political appointees to provide objective analysis, scientific rigor, and support for a strengthened 21st-century Environmental Protection Agency. EPN offers a pro bono Capacity-Building Technical Assistance Program to help communities, NGOs, and state, local, and tribal agencies disproportionately impacted by environmental and health issues navigate EPA processes, grants, regulations, and public data. The organization also runs a Civil Service Resilience Initiative to defend and support current and former EPA civil servants, provides mentoring and a Science Impact Fellowship, publishes policy analysis and news, and mobilizes volunteers to participate in public decision-making and advocacy around environmental protection.

📋 Description

• Oversee management and operations of technical assistance work in EPA Region 1 • Connect frontline communities, nonprofits, and under-resourced government agencies, including tribes, with EPN volunteers for community-driven projects • Connect communities with technical, grant, legal, and scientific resources • Conduct outreach to frontline communities, nonprofits, and under-resourced government agencies • Collaborate and coordinate with Region 1 partners • Assist entities with identifying and applying for grant opportunities • Contribute to a monthly Region 1 funding bulletin • Recruit and activate volunteers across Region 1 and the EPN network • Track work in EPN’s database and Google spreadsheets • Track next steps for staff, volunteers, and partner organizations • Schedule meetings for communities, potential experts, and organizations • Build collaborative partnerships between community leaders and government agencies • Grow individual and local partnerships for holistic community support • Produce webinars, trainings, templates, grant templates, and other capacity-building tools • Travel throughout local EPA regions and sometimes beyond for events and conferences • Share findings formally and informally • Meet goals and priorities in the core expectations document

🎯 Requirements

• At least 1 year of relevant work experience • Must be located in EPA Region 1: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont • Highly productive in remote working environments • Self-starter • Interest in environmental justice, U.S. environmental and health policy, and/or the work of the EPA • Experience with or knowledge of social justice and equity issues • Strong writing skills • Detail-oriented and unafraid to ask questions • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and switch effectively between tasks • Experience working in collaborations or with multiple partners • Strong work ethic • Familiarity with Google Docs and Google Spreadsheets • Familiarity or experience using CRM systems
