• Exercise independent discretion or judgment in handling all types of property claims • Assist or act on behalf of the claims supervisor when required • Conduct investigations and interviews, inspect damage, and drive to damage sites within the assigned territory • Prepare estimates, make recommendations, handle coverage questions, and manage litigation • Set and maintain reserves; review reports and related materials; direct experts; determine coverage and claim value; issue or decline payment; and negotiate claims with plaintiff attorneys when necessary • Document claim files and submit reports for closure • Recognize subrogation situations and initiate appropriate action • Service the assigned territory and bring claims to conclusion • Interact with agents and district sales managers • Assist the claims supervisor or represent the company at legal proceedings as required • Complete industry-related training and attend ongoing training on policy changes, interpretation, and legislation • Assist in training new claims adjusters • Participate on the Catastrophe Team when required • Maintain regular and predictable attendance
• High School Diploma or GED and five years of claims handling experience, or equivalent required; or Bachelor’s Degree and two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent required • Must live in the assigned territory unless a change is approved by the company • Ability to drive/travel regularly within the assigned territory • Willingness to obtain adjuster licensing within 45 days of hire • Willingness to obtain and maintain any required licenses • Successful completion of Associate in Claims (AIC) program preferred • Valid driver's license and good driving record required • Ability to serve on the Catastrophe Team, including short-notice travel to other locations for periods exceeding two consecutive weeks • Good time management and organization skills preferred • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required • Ability to move over 50 lbs using lifting aide equipment • Ability to climb/access heights • Ability to drive frequently • Ability to lift/move 0–20 lbs and 20–50 lbs • Ability to perform manual keying, data entry, inputting information, and computer use • Ability to push, pull, and move wheeled objects and equipment
