📋 Description

• Defend lawsuits filed in New York courts • Handle other first-party insurance defense matters • Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda • Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department • Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery • Handle depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath • Defend assigned matters by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable • Cover venues within Manhattan, Staten Island, and the Bronx, New York • Travel as required to attend trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences

🎯 Requirements

• 2 to 6+ years of experience in a related field, with litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury • Juris Doctor degree REQUIRED • Admission to the New York Bar REQUIRED • Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New York • Must meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable • Must be able to travel as required, including to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences • Must be able to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner • Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution • Strong organization, priority-setting, and multitasking skills • Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information • Preferred: Civil litigation experience • Preferred: Insurance defense-related litigation experience • Must be able to communicate professionally in person, by telephone, and through written correspondence/email • At this time, GEICO will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position
