📋 Description

• Lead all technical aspects of electrical substation protection and control engineering and design deliverables • Perform basic and detailed design activities • Coordinate engineering documentation for procurement, manufacturing, and site erection • Provide protection, automation, and control design for utility, Oil & Gas, Offshore Wind, transmission, and distribution substations from 12kV to 500kV • Lead project design teams and deliver high-quality products focused on installation, operation, maintenance, safety, schedule, and budget • Develop one-line protection and metering diagrams, tripping tables/matrices, logic diagrams, AC/DC auxiliary power diagrams, relay protection and control schematics, metering and alarm schematics, SCADA block diagrams, rack and panel views, wiring diagrams, control house layouts, cable schedules, and bills of materials • Coordinate P&C design with electrical layout engineers, relay setting engineers, site managers, commissioning engineers, and field personnel • Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers and review technical documentation • Apply IEDs from GE, SEL, and ABB to define protection and control philosophy and theory of operations • Prepare P&C engineering estimates and estimate equipment quantities and proposal costs • Assess project resources and materials and develop project execution plans • Communicate with the Project Engineering Manager, identify project risks, and resolve engineering and design issues affecting cost, schedule, budget, safety, and quality • Perform design calculations for DC battery and charger sizing, voltage drop, auxiliary AC power, and CT/PT/CCVT parameters • Create and support FAT, SAT, outage, and cutover plans and procedures • Support field testing and commissioning from the office or onsite • Perform engineering and constructability reviews and peer reviews • Support engineering KPIs, department goals, design procedures, standards development, quality, productivity, return of experience, and lessons learned • Execute projects in compliance with business policies, tools, procedures, and methods

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Utility, Renewable and/or Industrial HV & EHV substation’s P&C and SCADA design • Ability and willingness to travel 20% of the time, including international • Ability to obtain Professional Engineering license within 1 year • Fluent in written and spoken English • Excellent computer skills, including productivity tools and CAD software such as AutoCAD and EBase • Knowledge of ETAP and Aspen Oneliner for relay coordination, load flows, short circuit and arc flash studies • Familiarity with creation of Relay Settings and SCADA configuration files • Experience with GIS substation projects and AIS • Equipment and P&C field testing, commissioning and troubleshooting experience • Understanding of safety, operation, maintenance and testing practices common to utility substations, transmission and generation facilities • Familiarity with IEC 61850-based Digital Substations • Familiarity with NERC-CIP standards and guidelines for Cyber Security and Grid Interconnection • Familiarity with US Electric Utility customer design and construction standards and industry codes including NEC, ANSI, and NERC-CIP • Legal authorization to work in Canada for Canadian-based positions or the United States for U.S.-based positions • Compliance with applicable travel, tax, export-control, background investigation, and drug-screen requirements • Willingness to serve as the responsible engineer is desired for licensed Electrical (Power) Professional Engineers • Master’s in Power Systems is desired • Active participation in professional organizations such as IEEE and CIGRE is desired
