📋 Description

• Supervise and provide technical direction to a team of designers when functioning as lead designer • Deliver mechanical and piping deliverables and services on time, within budget, and to quality expectations • Perform advanced design work as a technical specialist on complex design assignments • Utilize project controls for project cost, schedule, and quality • Apply department design and drafting standards • Communicate project scope, specifications, design criteria, and design changes • Provide on-site assistance during startup • Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting personnel • Coordinate work activities with staff members and discipline leads • Produce mechanical and piping installation specifications with engineering review and approval • Lead and coordinate design staff to achieve scope, schedule, and budget objectives • Mentor subordinates • Participate in squad checks to ensure coordination between design disciplines • Check other designers' calculations for accuracy, code and specification conformance, and good engineering practice • Determine construction quantities and provide construction cost estimates • Delegate work according to designers' technical skills and experience and follow up to ensure progress and quality • Consult with design leaders from other disciplines and follow up for support • Participate in planning training programs, continuing education opportunities, and professional development of staff • Work under general supervision

🎯 Requirements

• Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting is required • SPED (Society of Piping Engineers and Designers) Certification is preferred • 12+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical/piping drafting and design • Knowledge and application of piping materials • Design of moderately complex process and utility piping systems • Knowledge and application of piping supports and restraints • Flexibility analysis of piping systems • Knowledge of manual valve sizing • Knowledge of good design practices for sizing piping systems • Sizing of compressible fluid piping systems • Identification, application, and specification of steam traps and liquid drainers • Identification, application, and specification of safety valves and devices • Selecting piping specialty items according to design criteria • Drafting of P&IDs and GAs • Design of piping-specific equipment and inline instrumentation arrangements • Familiarity with construction bulk materials and equipment specifications and installation details • Ability to create accurate mechanical/piping installation documents from vendor equipment drawings • Knowledge of workflow/information flow between disciplines • Knowledge of schedule constraints and information requirements for mechanical/piping deliverables • Ability to estimate completion of assigned tasks • Ability to develop mechanical/piping installation specifications with engineering review and approval • Ability to develop construction cost estimates, detailed engineering schedules, and man-hour budgets • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards • Ability to lead a small team • Ability to deliver presentations of Hargrove Engineers & Constructors services • Working knowledge of 2D AutoCAD and MicroStation • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook • Good verbal and written communication skills • Good presentation skills • Virtual team skills and cross-divisional relationships • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods • Authorization to work in the United States
