📋 Description

• Supervise and provide technical direction to a team of designers when functioning as lead designer • Deliver mechanical and piping deliverables and services on time, within budget, and meeting quality expectations • Perform advanced design work as a technical specialist for complex design assignments • Utilize project controls for project cost, schedule, and quality • Apply department design and drafting standards • Recognize and communicate project scope, specifications, design criteria, and design changes • Provide on-site assistance during startup • Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting personnel • Coordinate work activities with staff members and the discipline lead • Produce mechanical and piping installation specifications with engineering review and approval • Lead and coordinate design staff to achieve scope, schedule, and budget objectives • Mentor subordinates • Participate in squad checks to ensure coordination between design disciplines • Check calculations for accuracy, code and specification conformance, design criteria, and good engineering practice • Determine construction quantities and provide construction cost estimates • Delegate work based on designers' technical skills and experience and follow up to support efficient progress and quality • Consult with design leaders from other disciplines and follow up for support • Participate in planning training programs, continuing education opportunities, and staff professional development

🎯 Requirements

• Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting is required • SPED (Society of Piping Engineers and Designers) Certification is preferred • 20 or more years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical/piping drafting and design • Knowledge and application of piping materials • Design of moderately complex process and utility piping systems • Knowledge and application of piping supports and restraints • Flexibility analysis of piping systems • Knowledge of manual valve sizing • Knowledge of design practices for sizing piping systems • Sizing of compressible fluid piping systems • Identification, application, and specification of steam traps and liquid drainers • Identification, application, and specification of safety valves and devices • Selection of piping specialty items according to design criteria • Drafting of P&IDs and GAs • Design of piping-specific equipment and inline instrumentation arrangements • Familiarity with construction bulk materials and equipment specifications and installation details • Ability to create mechanical/piping installation documents from vendor equipment drawings • Knowledge of workflow and information flow between disciplines • Knowledge of schedule constraints and information requirements for mechanical/piping deliverables • Ability to estimate task completion accurately • Ability to develop mechanical/piping installation specifications with engineering review and approval • Ability to develop construction cost estimates, detailed engineering schedules, and man-hour budgets • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards • Ability to lead a small team • Ability to deliver presentations of Hargrove Engineers & Constructors services • Working knowledge of 2D AutoCAD and MicroStation • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Strong presentation skills • Highly developed virtual team skills and cross-divisional relationships • Ability to provide interoffice execution support without supervision • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time • Must be authorized to work in the United States
