Helpline Center is a 24/7 nonprofit crisis and resource helpline founded in 1974 that serves over 100,000 South Dakotans each year. It operates the state’s accredited 211 resource line and 988 crisis/lifeline services, provides suicide prevention and mental-health-related crisis support, connects people to community resources (food, transportation, housing, substance-use coordination, older adult outreach, child care help, etc. ), runs volunteer programs and trainings, and publishes data dashboards and resource guides. The organization accepts donations, coordinates volunteers and community events, and is headquartered in Sioux Falls, SD.

📋 Description

• Provide evidence-informed crisis intervention • Provide brief supportive counseling • Provide suicide prevention services • Provide information and referral services • Provide follow-up services to individuals contacting the Helpline Center through 988 • Support individuals experiencing emotional distress, substance use issues, or suicidal ideation • Interact with clients by telephone, SMS text messaging, and/or web chat • Work overnight hours from 7:00pm–5:00am on either Sunday through Wednesday or Thursday through Sunday • Practice a wide range of clinical skills and behavioral health knowledge

🎯 Requirements

• Master’s Degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or related field required • Additional experience working in mental health counseling or mental health crisis strongly preferred • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team in a collegial group environment • Strong oral and written language skills • Working knowledge of computers and software programs • Proficient keyboarding skills • Offers of employment contingent upon acceptable background check • Must live in South Dakota or a surrounding state
