Institute of Noetic Sciences is a nonprofit scientific research center and experiential lab founded in 1973 by Apollo 14 astronaut Dr. Edgar Mitchell to investigate the intersection of scientific knowledge and inner, subjective human experience. IONS conducts multidisciplinary research and experiments on consciousness, subtle energy healing, spontaneous remission, meditation, and related frontier topics; it runs an IONS Discovery Lab, research prizes, publications, and collaborates with scientists and fellows. In addition to research, IONS offers experiential programs, online workshops, webinars, conferences, a membership community, and educational resources aimed at deepening understanding of consciousness and human interconnectedness.
