📋 Description

• Provide virtual academic assistance to Juris Doctor students through synchronous and asynchronous coaching sessions, tutorials, and workshops • Support first-year students and students experiencing academic persistence or performance challenges • Help students develop foundations in legal writing and analysis • Identify students’ learning strengths and challenges and collaboratively develop individual academic support plans • Provide one-to-one and group academic coaching and oral or written feedback • Teach legal writing, objective and persuasive writing, Bluebook citation, legal research, statutes, court-opinion briefing, and IRAC argument structure • Review practice essays and provide detailed feedback • Help students become autonomous, self-directed learners • Maintain records of student contact • Evaluate learning styles, skills, deficiencies, and goals; identify and facilitate use of appropriate resources • Collaborate with the Manager of Student and Bar Success on academic success, persistence, retention, and bar preparation initiatives • Stay up-to-date with bar exam developments and effective study strategies • Participate in training, coaching, meetings, and student success initiatives • Support the mission of COLPS and National University • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• Juris Doctorate degree in a relevant field from a regionally accredited institution • Successfully passed a State Bar Exam • Minimum of 3 years of relevant coaching or tutoring experience within a higher education environment • Demonstrated success working with non-traditional (adult) students in tutoring, academic coaching, or teaching legal forms of writing • Ability to provide personalized instruction in non-technical language based on students’ unique strengths and growth areas with little to no preparation required • Experience in an online learning environment • Proficiency in using technology in the delivery of education • Knowledge of adult learning theories and cognitive load theories • Graduate-level written communication skills • Developmental editing skills • Demonstrated knowledge of BlueBook citation guidelines • Demonstrated knowledge of proper paraphrasing • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills • Strong interpersonal and communication skills • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in diverse, fast-paced environments with multiple deadlines and changing priorities • Intermediate computer and Microsoft Office Suite skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook • Experience using Student Information Systems such as SOAR/PeopleSoft
