📋 Description

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases, a peer-reviewed scientific journal • Ensure timely, ethical, and accurate manuscript processing from submission through publication • Maintain relationships with authors, reviewers, editorial board members, and the publishing partner • Monitor scholarly publishing developments and update journal policies and procedures • Manage and track manuscript workflow using an online submission system such as Editorial Manager • Ensure content deadlines are met • Supervise the Associate Managing Editor, Editorial Coordinator, and three Editorial Assistants • Coordinate with Elsevier’s Journal Manager to facilitate journal production and resolve production problems • Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief on editorial board meetings, communications, and initiatives • Maintain the journal style guide and Information for Authors • Adapt workflows to updates in manuscript-handling software • Manage the budget, projections, resource allocation, budget statements, stipend payments, and author page-charge billing • Design and implement monthly, semi-annual, and annual performance reports • Implement editorial and publishing improvements • Coordinate special issues, supplements, invited content, and guideline commentaries • Collaborate with NKF Marketing and Communications to promote journal content • Support the Editor-in-Chief and editorial board transition process with senior scientific leadership • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and 7 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required • Extensive project management experience required • Track record of designing and implementing successful programs and initiatives in scholarly publishing • At least 2 years of supervisory experience • Ability to manage a variety of functions • Considerable judgment to apply limited parameters and concepts to significant problems, opportunities, projects, and situations • Ability to create new and modify existing approaches within established policies, guidelines, practices, and philosophies • Ability to obtain consensus or approval while coordinating multiple demands • Excellent command of medical terminology • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
