📋 Description

• Handle on-demand video and audio interpreting sessions between Somali and English speakers • Render accurate meanings according to established interpretation protocols, without omissions or additions • Provide interpretation across healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel and hospitality, general business, law enforcement, courts, and 911 • Deliver interpretation via video and type data on a dedicated device • Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation and polite expressions • Maintain professionalism, neutrality, objectivity, and cultural sensitivity • Remain calm during emotional, sensitive, or emergency calls • Maintain punctuality and availability during scheduled work hours • Follow client instructions and interpretation protocols • Understand terminology and procedures across multiple industries • Participate in online video and audio training sessions • Work from a quiet and secure home office

🎯 Requirements

• Fluency in Somali and English and skilled in the associated cultural dynamics • Ability to provide cultural competency and assess regional and accent differences • Excellent listening, retention and note-taking skills • Ability to concentrate, remain neutral and objective, and handle sensitive subjects • Education or work experience in language-related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation or interpretation preferred • Must be able to adapt to LLS technology enhancements • Must be at least 18 years of age • Legally authorized to work in the United States • Must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require visa sponsorship • High school diploma or equivalent • Ability to read and write the requested languages highly preferred • Dedicated personal device for business purposes • Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS, iPadOS, Android, or iOS device • High-speed internet with at least 5 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload, ping no more than 300 ms, and jitter no more than 30 ms • Quiet space free from background noise or distraction • Ability to operate a keyboard and mouse and remain stationary before a computer and webcam most of the workday • Ability to use a headset for prolonged periods • Ability to operate company-provided software and systems • Sufficient manual dexterity to type or write • Able to lift up to 26 lbs • May be required to complete a post-offer, pre-employment background check and/or drug screen • Candidates currently employed by a LanguageLine Solutions client or affiliated business may not be eligible for consideration
