📋 Description

• Provide comprehensive applications/project engineering support for distributed energy and microgrid projects involving solar, energy storage, controls, and reciprocating engines • Develop resilient and adaptable power system solutions that withstand disruptive events, lower operating costs, and improve renewable utilization • Understand client goals and constraints and lead solutions that achieve client objectives • Work with switchgear, battery, inverter, generator, and other DER manufacturers to develop designs and solutions • Design low- and medium-voltage installations up to 35kV and interconnections at higher voltages • Coordinate with interconnected utilities and complete interconnection applications • Navigate legacy drawings, brownfield equipment, and incomplete information to develop plans, estimates, and designs • Manage engineering subconsultants and construction partners • Serve as Owner’s Engineer during development, design review, procurement, construction, commissioning, and interconnection • Lead technical review of EPC and OEM deliverables for compliance with client standards and performance requirements • Support factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, commissioning, and performance validation • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, technicians, and regulators

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program with a focus on power • 4-8 years of work experience in the design and construction of distribution/generation/storage projects • Demonstrated experience providing Owner’s Engineering services for PV and/or other power generation projects across multiple clients • Design experience in Distribution, Substation Protection & Control (P&C), or Substation Physical • Awareness of relevant industry standards and regulations, including NEC, IEEE 1547, and IEEE 386 • Ability to create and guide others in creating One Line Diagrams, Electrical Plans/Elevations, AC/DC Schematics, and similar drawings • Familiarity with factory acceptance tests and on-site commissioning of power systems • Technical understanding of DER technologies including storage, micro nuclear reactors, solar generation, and conventional engine/turbine generators • Familiarity with microgrid challenges including effective grounding, synchronization, distributed control, and remedial action schemes • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks for DER interconnections, including CPUC Rule 21 • Experience submitting interconnection applications and reviewing Utility studies • Knowledge of pre-construction planning, permitting, and coordination processes considered a strong asset • Experience with DER communication network protocols such as IEEE 2030.5, SunSpec, Modbus, or DNP3 preferred • US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder) status required • Professional Engineer (PE) in power or actively progressing towards that license favorable • Master’s degree in a related field favorable • Experience with protection or arc flash studies using ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, and/or SKM favorable • Experience with grounding or illumination studies using CDEGS and/or AutoLUX favorable
