• Assign appropriate ICD and CPT codes for reimbursement and statistical purposes • Follow ICD, CPT, CMS, and other regulatory coding guidelines • Review and interpret medical documentation to accurately assign facility or professional reimbursement and statistical codes • Abstract clinical information from medical records and enter information into the computer • Research and stay current with healthcare coding and compliance trends • Keep the department manager informed of coding or documentation issues • Work independently and collaboratively to support department and organizational People, Quality, Finance, and Service goals • Collaborate with physicians, coding staff, and hospital personnel to ensure accurate code assignment and continuous quality improvement • Assist with coding claim edits and review claim denials for correction • Adhere to attendance policies and coordinate time off to avoid disrupting coding turnaround times • Perform other duties as assigned
• High School Diploma or Equivalent • 3 years of professional coding experience covering multiple clinical and/or surgical specialties, with successful quality and productivity standards • Active AAPC or AHIMA Coding Credential • Experience working with CPT and ICD diagnosis coding • Experience with CCI edits • Experience with Medicare LCDs and NCDs • Understanding of state and federal regulations and payor billing requirements • Computer literacy and experience with Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook • Experience with electronic health records software • Experience with E/M Documentation Guidelines (1995/1997/2021) • Must reside in South Carolina
