📋 Description

• Lead content strategy engagements from discovery through launch, including content audits, gap analysis, and stakeholder interviews across multiple agency divisions • Design information architecture and taxonomy for large WordPress installations • Build content models for custom WordPress blocks and templates with designers and developers • Write and enforce editorial guidelines meeting the Plain Writing Act, Section 508, and WCAG 2.1 AA content requirements • Plan and execute content migrations, including inventorying legacy content and determining what should be rewritten, consolidated, or retired • Facilitate workshops and training sessions to hand off editorial ownership to client content teams • Use analytics and user research to support structural and editorial recommendations • Partner with client content editors to consolidate and organize duplicate or overlapping content and review it against governance standards • Create and edit plain-language copy and overhaul legacy pages • Mentor other content strategists and content-adjacent team members • Work directly with government clients and the design and development team

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in content strategy, content design, or a closely related discipline • Track record of owning strategy rather than executing someone else's • Experience running full content audits and building information architecture for complex, multi-stakeholder websites • Working knowledge of WordPress content structures, including custom post types, taxonomies, and block-based editing • Experience writing and defending content in plain language for a general public audience • Familiarity with Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements as they apply to content • Experience facilitating workshops or training with non-technical stakeholders • Strong written communication skills and ability to translate research and audit findings into actionable recommendations • Ability to work remotely and be self-directed • Proven ability to manage multiple client engagements at once • Experience in an agency, consultancy, or as a contractor • Content modeling and taxonomy design • Information architecture and site mapping • Editorial governance frameworks and style guides • Content migration planning and legacy content audits • Experience with analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Parse.ly • Prior experience with government, public-sector, or highly regulated clients • Familiarity with digital.gov guidance and the Plain Writing Act of 2010 • Experience with UX writing or content design in a product team setting • Background in SEO strategy for large institutional websites • Experience training non-technical staff on WordPress editorial workflows • Prior experience acting as a mentor or leader on a content team • U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) content patterns or similar atomic design system approaches • Legal authorization to work in the United States • Ability to meet other requirements for applicable government contracts • Work authorization that does not require visa sponsorship now or in the future • May be subject to a non-government and/or government background check or security clearance • Work must be performed in the United States
