📋 Description

• Resolve personal lines marine bodily injury claims of all complexities, including disputes resolved through mediation or litigation • Handle claims from coverage inquiry through legal liability assessment, quantum analysis, and timely, accurate resolution • Mitigate indemnity and expense exposure while communicating developments and outcomes to internal and external stakeholders • Identify potential subrogation avenues • Handle moderate to complex personal lines marine bodily injury claims • Confirm claim coverage by reviewing policies and supporting documents • Direct and monitor assignments to experts and outside counsel • Manage vendors and litigation on moderate to high complexity claims, including achieving demonstrable savings • Analyze coverage and communicate coverage positions; prepare coverage position letters • Investigate loss facts and extent of damages • Provide timely service throughout the claim lifecycle and meet service level agreements • Evaluate coverage, liability, and damages to determine insured exposure • Set reserves within authority or recommend reserve changes to management • Negotiate and settle claims directly or indirectly • Prepare reports by collecting and summarizing information • Present higher-exposure cases at roundtables to senior claims leaders and underwriters • Participate in special projects and assist team members • Deliver technical training and mentor colleagues • Coordinate loss information and present it to underwriters and/or insureds

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of claims or relevant experience • Strong knowledge of bodily injury claims, including litigation • Proven track record in Customer Service/Experience • Excellent written and oral communication skills • Strong organization and time management skills • Experience in determining contractual obligations, coverage analysis, liability analysis, and investigations • Ability to direct and manage outside vendors, including surveyors and outside counsel • Ability to manage complex injury exposures, set loss and expense reserves, and evaluate settlement values • Ability to proactively self-manage an active caseload • Ability to analyze and convey summations of complex issues, recognize alternative approaches, and develop action plans verbally and in writing • Travel required as necessary (10-15%) • Non-traditional work schedule may be required • US Work Authorization required • Markel does not provide visa sponsorship for this position, now or in the future • College degree and/or professional designation preferred • Knowledge of marine insurance a plus
