• Lead the medical science writing capability for Medtronic's Surgical Medical Evidence team • Manage scientific publication and clinical communication development across the Surgical evidence portfolio • Establish scientific writing standards, scalable governance processes, and publication best practices • Ensure compliant dissemination of clinical evidence and alignment with clinical and business priorities • Oversee manuscripts, abstracts, posters, congress presentations, and other scientific collateral • Lead publication and scientific communication strategies, including identifying evidence gaps and prioritizing publication opportunities • Align Medical Affairs, Clinical Research, HEOR, Regulatory Affairs, and Marketing on clinical evidence communication • Oversee therapy or product cross-functional evidence councils and prioritize evidence generation and scientific deliverables • Directly manage, mentor, and develop medical science writers/specialists and program managers • Hire, onboard, manage performance, and support career development • Allocate resources and manage deliverables, publication plans, and timelines • Support interpretation and communication of clinical data for cross-functional decision-making • Oversee internal review workflows and publication processes • Collaborate with key opinion leaders, investigators, and healthcare professionals • Build a high-performing team focused on evidence dissemination
• Bachelor's degree required and minimum of 7 years of experience in medical writing, scientific communications, or clinical research, with 5+ years of managerial experience; alternatively, an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and 5+ years of managerial experience • Leadership, mentoring, or team management experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry • Prior experience directly managing publications or scientific communication professionals preferred • Experience contributing to publication strategy and evidence dissemination planning • Experience developing peer-reviewed manuscripts and scientific congress presentations • Experience working directly with key opinion leaders and healthcare professionals • Strong understanding of clinical research methodologies and evidence generation strategies • Experience translating clinical and outcomes data for clinicians, regulators, and payers • Familiarity with ICMJE and GPP publication standards and guidelines • Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environment • CMPP or AMWA essential skills certification preferred • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills • For baccalaureate degrees earned outside the United States, a degree satisfying 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required • Unrestricted U.S. work authorization required at hire and throughout employment for roles below Principal level
