📋 Description

• Conduct regular coding audits and coordinate ongoing monitoring of coding accuracy • Provide continuous feedback to coding staff • Develop and coordinate educational sessions for coding staff regarding documentation and accurate coding • Serve as a resource on organization-wide coding and documentation standards and guidelines • Design audit tools to monitor clinical coding accuracy • Keep abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements • Conduct trend analyses to identify patterns and variations in coding practices • Abide by AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding and official coding guidelines • Ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors • Meet Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, standards, productivity, quality, and budgetary requirements • Promote professional growth and development through mandatory/continuing education and skills competency • Support department-based goals and serve as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff • Create compassionate and personalized experiences for community members, patients, and colleagues • Perform other duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required • Inpatient: RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, or CIC coding certification from AHIMA or AAPC required • Outpatient: RHIT, RHIA, or relevant coding certification from AHIMA or AAPC required • Four (4) years of relevant hospital coding or auditing experience required • Experience coding/auditing in a level 1 trauma facility or academic teaching facility strongly preferred • Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding principles and guidelines • Extensive knowledge of 3M Coding applications and resolving coding edits • Working knowledge of reimbursement systems, regulations, and policies pertaining to documentation, coding, and billing • Knowledge of database applications and spreadsheet design • Effective oral and written communication skills • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served • Knowledge of principles of growth and development as related to different life cycles
