📋 Description

• Assist house counsel with pre-trial tasks • Draft responses, motions, briefs, pleadings, appeals, letters, and other legal documents • Search, assemble, summarize, and evaluate information for discovery responses and claim cases • Correspond with clients, attorneys, claims personnel, insureds, and other parties regarding case status and legal procedures • Obtain extensions and ensure objections and responses are timely and proper • Prepare, assemble, and format court documents, discovery, pleadings, affidavits, and trial materials • File pleadings and maintain digital case files in case management systems • Prepare administrative reports, discovery summaries, medical record summaries, and pre- and post-trial reports • Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including exhibits, trial books, motions in limine, expert witness lists, and statements of the case • Research and analyze statutes, judicial decisions, legal articles, depositions, legal codes, case law, vehicle valuation, medical treatment, aerial maps, and policy language • Investigate facts and causes of action to support case preparation • Assist insureds in Small Claims cases by preparing trial briefs, preparing insureds for trial, attending trials, and defending the company when named as a party • Complete special legal assignments and prioritize and reprioritize tasks for timely completion • Complete continuing professional education as required

🎯 Requirements

• Certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association; or qualifying postsecondary paralegal program/degree with at least 24 semester units in law-related courses; or BA/advanced degree plus one year of qualifying law-related experience and attorney declaration; or high school diploma/GED plus three years of qualifying law-related experience and attorney declaration • Minimum 0–2 years insurance defense paralegal experience and/or equivalent insurance defense litigation experience • General knowledge of legal principles, terminology, and procedures • Written communication skills for drafting legal documents supporting and responding to discovery, depositions, and motions • Ability to work in a paperless environment • Ability to correspond effectively with clients, attorneys, and other involved parties • Knowledge and proficiency in word processing and case management software • Completion of 4 hours of continuing education or required hours under State rules • Preferred: Degree in paralegal studies and/or Paralegal Certificate with 1+ insurance defense or civil litigation experience • Preferred: 1–2+ years paralegal experience in civil litigation/insurance defense • Preferred: Excellent written and verbal communication and grammatical skills
