• Manage preparations required to take delivery of the Africa Mercy II and bring it into operations and field service • Create operational documentation, maintenance plans, parts, and supplies for the ship to enter service • Transition into the Technical Superintendent role after delivery and prepare and submit warranty claims • Develop and coordinate SMS documentation, regulatory documentation, and shipboard manuals • Oversee and support the planned maintenance system and monitor routine and corrective maintenance onboard the assigned vessel • Ensure classification and Flag State requirements are in place for timely delivery and monitor surveys and identified defects • Oversee technical work plans for equipping, initial field service, and annual maintenance phases including drydocking • Review repair and modification requests for compliance with statutory regulations and classification society rules • Inspect machinery, equipment, or spaces; prepare job specifications; and obtain contractor or shipyard bids • Maintain contractor contact to ensure work is completed according to contract terms • Investigate machinery casualties and advise ship officers on preventing recurrence • Plan supply stocks of repair parts and consumables for marine operations specialties • Maintain records of technical expenses for repairs, supplies, and personnel • Liaise with regulatory agencies regarding alterations, repairs, and modifications • Review and advise on qualifications of technical staff and applicants • Maintain knowledge of Company SMS and assist the QHSE Manager with safe working practices onboard • Visit the vessel during construction, equipping, and field service; conduct the annual Company Vessel Inspection after delivery • Perform other duties as assigned
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals • Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, contractors, suppliers, and the general public • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions • Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and handle abstract and concrete variables • Ability to travel nationally and internationally • Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) from a four-year college or university, with 10 years of related industry experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience • Two or more years of service aboard ROPAX or cruise vessels • Certificate of Competency in accordance with STCW III/2 required • Chief Engineer preferred • Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training required within the first year • Support for Mercy Ships' mission, vision, and core values • Understanding and application of servant leadership, collaboration with integrity, and accountability
