β’ Review and score admissions applications for Colorado School of Mines β’ Evaluate applications and recommend admission decisions according to federal, state, and institutional policies β’ Use professional judgment and provided resources to make decisions aligned with enrollment goals and students' potential for success β’ Assess academic preparedness using high school and college transcripts, school profiles, educational context, coursework quality, and standardized test scores β’ Review recommendation letters for academic potential, work habits, and character β’ Review essays for special circumstances, life experiences, and commitment to the Mines community β’ Evaluate extracurricular activities, leadership, and work experiences, including the time and talent required and the quality and depth of those experiences β’ Communicate with full-time admissions staff regarding applicants β’ Evaluate international credentials, determine equivalencies, and apply them to holistic application review β’ Interpret prerequisite course requirements for transfer applicants and assess completion of prerequisites for programs of interest β’ Evaluate eligible candidates for scholarship consideration β’ Perform other duties as assigned
β’ Bachelor's degree required β’ Background in secondary or higher education β’ Must not be currently employed as a college admission professional, high school guidance or college counselor, or independent educational consultant/college counselor β’ Must not be the parent or guardian of a current high school junior or senior β’ Must not also be employed as a seasonal application reader for another college/university β’ Graduate students are eligible to apply, subject to potential part-time work restrictions under university policy β’ Full-time employees elsewhere are eligible to apply, subject to the demands of peak reading periods β’ Experience in admissions, recruitment, and/or application review preferred β’ Experience with Mines and/or the application review process preferred β’ Experience working with international students and/or transfer students preferred β’ Ability to recognize personal and implicit biases in application review and experience mitigating their impacts preferred β’ Must attend required training and participate in ongoing training, feedback sessions, and committee meetings as needed β’ Must submit a timesheet to receive compensation β’ Successful completion of a background investigation is required β’ Ability to work an average of 15β20 hours per week and evaluate at least 30β40 applications per week between August 15 and April 1 β’ Flexibility to work up to 30 hours per week during peak periods and approximately 10β15 hours per week during low periods
