📋 Description

• Lead and mentor a team of Bioinformatics Scientists and own their professional growth and responsibilities • Own research strategy for new product development from scoping through execution • Lead bioinformatics analysis for assay development and optimization • Troubleshoot experiments with laboratory scientists across methylation, fragmentomics, cfDNA features, short-read and long-read sequencing, hybrid-capture, and amplicon enrichment • Partner with laboratory teams on study design, technology assessment, optimization, and performance determination • Advise and prototype improvements to analysis pipelines, including variant detection, quality control, methylation calling, fragment-size and end-motif analysis, error suppression, and structural-variant calling • Move research prototypes into stable production workflows • Enforce software engineering practices including version control, testing, CI/CD, and containerization • Automate research data management, pipeline execution, and reporting • Establish standards for appropriate AI agent-assisted work and scientific sign-off • Collaborate with data science, molecular biology, pipeline engineering, biostatistics, quality assurance, and laboratory operations • Serve as a bioinformatics subject-matter expert and communicate findings and roadmaps across the company • Ensure research roadmaps are visible, methods reach production code, benchmark performance is demonstrated, and cross-functional teams can independently support decisions

🎯 Requirements

• Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Biostatistics, or a related field; an M.S. with equivalent experience considered • 7+ years in bioinformatics, including 3+ years leading scientists and working across functions • Demonstrated ownership of a team that took scientific research into real clinical use • Demonstrated experience developing or scientifically guiding diagnostic sequencing assays • Deep expertise in next-generation sequencing analysis, including hybrid-capture or amplicon-based target enrichment, sequencing quality control, secondary analysis, and variant calling • Experience with cell-free DNA sequencing and other omics data, especially in a diagnostics setting • Working knowledge of diagnostic product development in a regulated, accredited setting • Strong Python, programming, and data analysis skills • Fluency in exploratory data analysis and visualization on complex datasets • Understanding of sequencing workflows from sample extraction through the instrument • Record of assessing a new platform, assay chemistry, or method against established benchmarks • Strong communication of technical detail to non-specialists • Ability to manage several objectives and timelines without close supervision • Long-read sequencing with PacBio HiFi or Oxford Nanopore in addition to short-read Illumina, R, shell scripting, Java, AWS, GCP, Snakemake, WDL, Nextflow, Cromwell, Docker, Kubernetes, conference presentations, or peer-reviewed publication are additional strengths
