• Lead and mentor a team of Bioinformatics Scientists, owning their professional growth, responsibilities, and standards • Own the research strategy for new product development from scoping through execution • Lead bioinformatics analysis for assay development and optimization, troubleshooting experiments with laboratory scientists • Work across methylation, fragmentomics, other cfDNA-derived features, short-read and long-read sequencing, hybrid-capture, and amplicon target enrichment • Partner with laboratory teams on research and feasibility study design, technology assessment, optimization, and performance determination • Improve analysis pipelines for variant detection, quality control, methylation calling, fragment-size and end-motif analysis, error suppression, and structural-variant calling • Move research prototypes into stable production workflows using version control, testing, continuous integration and delivery, and containerization • Automate research data management, pipeline execution, and reporting • Establish standards for appropriate AI-agent-assisted work and scientist sign-off • Collaborate with data science, molecular biology, pipeline engineering, biostatistics, quality assurance, and laboratory operations • Serve as a bioinformatics subject-matter expert and communicate findings and roadmaps across the company • Own the team research roadmap and ensure research methods reach production code and demonstrate expected benchmark performance
• Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Biostatistics, or a related field; an M.S. with equivalent experience is considered • 7+ years in bioinformatics, including 3+ years leading scientists and working across functions • Demonstrated ownership of a team that took scientific research into real clinical use • Demonstrated experience developing or scientifically guiding diagnostic sequencing assays • Deep expertise in next-generation sequencing analysis, including hybrid-capture or amplicon-based target enrichment, sequencing quality control, secondary analysis, and variant calling • Experience with cell-free DNA sequencing and other omics data, especially in diagnostics • Working knowledge of diagnostic product development in a regulated, accredited setting • Strong Python, programming, and data analysis skills • Fluency in exploratory data analysis and visualization on complex datasets • Ability to translate findings into actionable recommendations • Understanding of sequencing workflows from sample extraction through the instrument • Demonstrated record of assessing a new platform, assay chemistry, or method against established benchmarks • Long-read sequencing, including PacBio HiFi or Oxford Nanopore, in addition to short-read Illumina sequencing • R, shell scripting, or Java • Cloud computing with AWS or GCP and workflow orchestration with Snakemake, WDL, Nextflow, or Cromwell • Containerization with Docker or Kubernetes for reproducible, production-grade analyses • Conference presentations or peer-reviewed publications may be advantageous
