• Oversee the operations of the Collections Department • Lead the development, deployment, and direction of Collections programs and processes • Provide strategy, guidance, support, and directives for collection efforts across consumer, real estate, business, and commercial loan products • Control delinquency and charge-offs and provide accurate Known Loss details • Oversee liquidation of repossessed and foreclosed collateral to maximize recoveries • Establish and direct policies, processes, and procedures for collection, modification, and charge-off activities • Oversee day-to-day Collections Department operations • Set, monitor, and manage employee performance standards and service levels • Lead, coach, train, develop, and evaluate team members • Manage department training, cross-training, counseling, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations • Manage loan modification processes to ensure compliance • Oversee monthly trend analysis, charge-off reports, known losses, Loan Quality Trend reporting, and negative share write-off reporting • Serve on the Credit Risk Committee and prepare the monthly agenda • Recommend collection strategies and process improvements using analysis, market trends, and best practices • Oversee accounts assigned to collection agencies, small claims, and civil litigation • Review bankruptcy accounts and monitor reports and agreements • Support continuous improvement activities and represent the Credit Union professionally • Meet delinquency and charge-off ratios established by the board of directors • Maintain confidential member and sensitive information
• 7–10 years of hands-on collection experience, including consumer secured and unsecured, real estate, and commercial/business loans • Managerial experience in a financial institution • Strong background in bankruptcy laws, foreclosures, and repossessions • Working knowledge of PC-based word processing, spreadsheet, and productivity applications • Well-rounded knowledge of loan servicing and collection laws and regulations, including FDCPA • Business acumen and financial awareness, including cost/benefit relationships, department profitability, and balancing member needs with financial considerations • Ability to make decisions, drive projects and people forward, and achieve desired outcomes • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including creating and delivering presentations to various groups • Ability to explain and motivate others, negotiate effectively, and manage conflict • Customer-first focus and ability to balance individual needs with organizational priorities • Ability to motivate direct reports and project members and empower others • Ability to assess people's strengths and limitations • Ability to organize people and activities, simplify complex processes, and optimize resources • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field • Professional certification or graduate degree • Credit Union or banking experience preferred
