📋 Description

• Assign diagnosis and procedural codes to inpatient and outpatient medical records • Code medical records and documents at the conclusion of patient visits • Select appropriate admitting, principal, secondary, and procedural diagnoses and codes • Assign accurate ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes and sequence diagnoses and procedures • Abstract admission source, type, disposition, and physician information • Review electronic medical records in IHIS using computer-assisted coding/encoder software • Interface coded and abstracted information with the IHIS Resolute Billing system • Address coding and abstracting edits for complete and accurate coding and MS-DRG/APR-DRG assignment • Maintain departmental productivity and quality standards and an approved work schedule • Submit a weekly volume log • Attend monthly coding meetings and education sessions • Review Coding Clinics and CPT Assistant to ensure official coding guidelines are followed

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum completion of a CAHIIM approved coding certificate program or HIMT program or equivalent education & experience • Demonstrated coding proficiency through completion of OSUWMC’s coding test • Familiarity or experience with computer assisted coding and/or automated encoder • Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management and a minimum of 1 year outpatient coding experience (ICD-10-CM and CPT) for emergency, outpatient, ambulatory surgery, observation, and series/clinics; OR 3 years’ acute care academic medical center outpatient coding experience within an academic Health Information Management department • Credentialed as RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or COC • Maintain continuing education requirements determined by AHIMA or AAPC • Maintain a minimum score of 90% on coding assessments • Successful completion of a background check; drug screen or physical may be required post-offer
