📋 Description

• Code medical records and other documents at the conclusion of patients’ visits • Code multiple work types for inpatient and outpatient services • Select appropriate admitting, principal, secondary, and procedural diagnoses and procedures • Assign accurate ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes and sequence diagnoses and procedure codes • Abstract admission, physician, and related medical record information from IHIS • Use Computer Assisted Coding/Encoder Software after reviewing electronic medical records in IHIS • Interface coded and abstracted information to the IHIS Resolute Billing system • Address coding and abstracting edits to ensure complete and accurate coding and MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignment • Maintain departmental productivity and quality standards and an approved work schedule • Submit a weekly volume log • Attend monthly coding meetings and coding education sessions • Review Coding Clinics and CPT Assistant to follow official coding guidelines • Maintain a minimum score of 90% on coding assessments

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum completion of a CAHIIM-approved coding certificate program or HIMT program or equivalent education and experience • Demonstrated coding proficiency through completion of OSUWMC’s coding test • Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management and a minimum of 1 year of outpatient coding experience, including ICD-10-CM and CPT, for relevant service types; OR 3 years of acute care academic medical center outpatient coding experience within an academic Health Information Management department • Experience with outpatient service types such as emergency, outpatient, ambulatory surgery/ASU, observation, and series/clinics • Credentialed as RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or COC by AAPC (outpatient credential only) • Maintain continuing education requirements determined by AHIMA or AAPC • Familiarity or experience with computer-assisted coding and/or automated encoder • Maintain a minimum score of 90% on coding assessments • Successful completion of a background check; drug screen or physical may be required post-offer
