• Manage day-to-day operations of the Estimating Department • Manage and assign opportunities using established systems and processes • Maintain team and talent balance while considering deadlines, risk mitigation, and submittal complexity • Lead and execute estimating efforts aligned with company objectives • Identify risks and opportunities related to pricing strategy and propose solutions • Analyze the impact of decisions and changes on bid submittals and apply key learnings to future bids • Train team members on key learnings and industry and company best practices • Analyze complex projects and divide work categories into functional stages for estimator/team assignments • Develop systems and processes to improve estimating team efficiency and accuracy • Manage team members’ communication, presentations, and negotiations with subcontractors, construction managers, architects, and engineers • Lead estimating teams and/or independently create comprehensive proposals for client opportunities • Prepare program management plans, Q&A responses, project concern identifications, and bid document submittals • Lead the estimating team in a deadline-driven environment • Create and maintain peer and subordinate bid coaching, evaluation, and approval processes • Supervise or directly prepare quantity take-offs, assumed specifications, and market-accurate cost factors • Supervise or directly evaluate subcontractor quotes and qualify vendor proposals for scope duplication or omissions • Draft and negotiate written subcontractor scopes of work • Partner with Operations to collect and analyze execution data and apply learnings to future bids • Manage multiple projects and priorities during the business day • Participate in pre-bid reviews, post-bid reviews, turnover meetings, after-action reviews, and quarterly business meetings • Perform other responsibilities as necessary
• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred, or equivalent experience/training • At least four (4) years’ experience estimating commercial, retail, and multi-family projects of various sizes, including estimating and purchasing activities • Wide general knowledge base, networking, and recent interaction with sub-tier vendors, public authorities, and utilities in the region • Strong leadership qualities and organizational skills • Strong time management skills • Strong sense of urgency • Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort presenting • Comfortable in an ever-changing environment • Self-motivated, reliable, and attentive to detail • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications and applicable software systems • Proficient with construction estimating, construction document take-off, and bidding software systems • Proficient with project management software applications • Ability to work in an office environment with frequent sitting, walking, and standing, occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and balancing • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
