📋 Description

• Code medical information into Prisma billing/abstracting systems using professional and regulatory coding guidelines • Perform inpatient coding for major traumas and NICU records using ICD and ICD-PCS codes and assigning DRGs • Abstract, assign, and verify MCC/CC, HAC/PSI, and quality indicator data through documentation validation • Assign appropriate POA indicators and code records for multiple facilities • Review clinical documentation and select optimal principal diagnoses, sequencing risk-adjustment diagnoses according to established guidelines • Review work queues, prioritize charts for coding, and complete final coding for on-hold accounts daily • Identify and request physician queries when documentation is unclear or ambiguous, following AHIMA guidelines and organizational policies • Address open queries initiated by Clinical Documentation Specialists before final coding • Maintain complete, accurate, timely, and consistent coding in accordance with Prisma policies and department standards • Identify, trend, and escalate coding issues • Consult with and provide coding and documentation expertise to Clinical Documentation Specialists • Collaborate with CDI, PFS, and Quality teams on coding and documentation practices • Perform other duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• Education: Certification Program or Associate degree or Coding Certificate through AHIMA or another approved coding certification program • Three (3) years coding experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting • Inpatient coding experience • RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CIC or other approved coding credential required • EPIC health information system experience preferred • Proficiency using official coding books, electronic medical records, computer-assisted coding/encoding software, and clinical documentation information systems • Knowledge of electronic medical records and 3M or Encoder System • Knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology • Knowledge of MS DRG prospective payment system and severity systems • Ability to concentrate for extended periods • Ability to work and make decisions independently • Participation in on-site, remote and/or external training workshops and training
