• Teach civil litigation, focusing on the paralegal’s role through each stage of a civil case • Cover initiating lawsuits, pleadings, discovery, legal motions, and trial preparation documents • Prepare students to construct pleadings, interview clients, and prepare discovery, trial, and post-trial documents • Communicate consistently with students regarding feedback on performance • Be available via phone, email, and individual appointments for questions and academic assistance • Respond promptly to the Dean and University staff regarding performance, student concerns, and faculty-file or accreditation needs • Use effective teaching strategies and multiple teaching techniques • Create student engagement through activities, community building, student-centered learning, and synchronous classroom tools • Connect class-session objectives to course-performance objectives and use class time efficiently • Demonstrate subject-matter mastery and contribute to curriculum and assessment development • Provide student support and outreach through synchronous or asynchronous communication and meetings • Attend events, programmatic meetings, and committee work as designated or agreed upon with the Dean • Complete required professional development through Rasmussen Educational Units
• Master's degree in Legal Studies or JD • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field of study • 2–3 years of experience in civil litigation preferred • Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work in a team environment with minimal supervision • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with students, leadership, and peers • Excellent written communication and strong verbal communication skills in the English language • Regular access to a computer meeting system requirements: Windows XP or greater, Microsoft Office 2010, and an internet connection • Must be able to provide official transcripts for each degree earned from an accredited institution before teaching • Must provide active and unencumbered professional licenses/certifications required for specialized schools before teaching, where applicable
