📋 Description

• Assign ICD-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes and modifiers • Select MS-DRG and APC classifications • Code for severity of illness • Interact with medical staff, nursing, ancillary departments, provider offices, and outside organizations • Assist physicians with record documentation needs by requesting clarification • Educate physicians and ancillary staff about documentation needed for coding • Contact physician offices and SBL departments for diagnostic information • Train new coding staff as requested • Code all assigned encounter types and assist coworkers • Code and finalize inpatient and outpatient technical encounters according to production standards • Ensure data quality and optimum reimbursement under federal and state payment systems • Follow up on encounters requiring coding and finalization • Review and correct rejected or denied encounters • Thoroughly review records and code diagnoses and procedures according to applicable principles, guidelines, and regulations

🎯 Requirements

• High school diploma required • One of the following certifications required upon hire: CCA, CPC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS • Knowledge of ICD-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding • Knowledge of modifiers, MS-DRG, APC, and severity-of-illness coding • Ability to code inpatient and outpatient technical encounters • Ability to meet the quality standard of 95% appropriately and/or correctly coded diagnoses and procedures • Ability to follow ICD-CM and CPT coding principles, official guidelines, and regulations
