📋 Description

• Develop and execute new organizing capacity-building programs with senior organizing leadership • Assess organizing capacity gaps and identify programmatic solutions, training, learning spaces and development opportunities • Collaborate with campaigns, the IU Organizing Hub and local unions on capacity-building strategies and programs • Assist the Organizing Capacity Center Director in strengthening the organizing community at the IU and local unions • Build capacity through mentoring and coaching senior local leadership • Develop and execute training programs aligned with external organizing campaign goals, strategies and SEIU’s overall goals • Create and write training materials, including curricula, handouts, PowerPoint presentations and interactive exercises • Use creative training techniques to teach union organizing, campaign execution and staff development concepts, skills and best practices • Adapt teaching strategies to training audiences to maximize learning opportunities • Coordinate with IU Organizing Hub, other IU hubs and departments, and local union leadership on strategic trainings and programs • Provide leadership in SEIU’s organizing, campaigning and staff development • Facilitate and provide feedback in large- and small-group discussions, exercises and practice labs • Maintain and update program materials, records and budget • Coordinate logistics with operations • Report directly to the Organizing Capacity Director • Regular travel away from home for days at a time, including airplane travel

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum ten (10) years of new (external) labor organizing experience; or a combination of a minimum of seven (7) years external labor organizing and three (3) years of internal (member) organizing or relevant issue-based community organizing • Minimum seven (7) years of campaign management experience, including supervising, leading and developing organizing staff or teams • Three (3) years of experience in developing curriculum and training • Demonstrated experience with adult education or training is a plus • Proven leadership skills • Extensive experience in developing and executing union and/or community organizing issue campaigns • Extensive experience in developing and mentoring organizing staff • Extensive experience in developing learner-centered, participatory training curricula incorporating popular education approaches • Demonstrated commitment to progressive racial, social and economic justice • Demonstrated experience designing, writing, conducting and facilitating classroom and field-based trainings • Ability to exercise good judgment and work independently in complex political situations • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to train and manage effective organizing teams and use staff development best practices, tools and techniques • Ability to work with diverse people and teams • Ability to analyze organizational, campaign training and staff development needs and align them with curricula, materials and practice labs • Excellent listening skills • Ability to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Zoom, Canva and other computer software to produce training materials • Ability to handle multiple priority projects and meet established timelines • Ability to work independently and effectively within a team environment • Driver’s license and ability and willingness to travel by airplane • Ability and willingness to travel and work long and extended hours • Proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment • Resume and cover letter required • Bilingual fluency in English/Spanish preferred
