📋 Description

• Own major features end to end with the design team, from decision through release • Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features • Review pull requests and provide developmental feedback • Unblock engineers by investigating persistent issues • Identify reusable team solutions and drive their adoption • Maintain tested, clear, and consolidated shared components • Lead changes to team processes • Reduce manual intervention required for correct releases • Address recurring problems by changing underlying systems • Shift verification left through increased automated checks • Run planning focused on work requiring decisions • Determine appropriate review levels and sign-off requirements • Participate in Product, Design, and Engineering discussions and raise team constraints early • Handle critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA • Support early-career engineers with appropriate learning opportunities • Write code, review code, and own features hands-on • Collaborate with a distributed global team building text-to-speech products

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including time leading a team or owning a major surface while staying hands-on • Rock solid Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work • Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing them, including what can't be covered by them • Something introduced to a team that stuck after the candidate stopped pushing it, with an honest account of its cost • Comfort asking people to change how they work and handling the resulting friction • Ability to determine which changes need heavy review and which do not, based on system behavior • Track record of building things the rest of the team actually used • Ability to describe how the team works with AI agents • Product design intuition, user empathy, and drive to push Android UI/UX beyond the specification • Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the specification • Excellent communication skills • Portfolio and LinkedIn links included with the application • Bonus: Building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects • Bonus: Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS
