📋 Description

• Own major Android features end to end, working closely with the design team from decision through release • Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features • Review pull requests and provide developmental feedback • Unblock engineers and investigate stalled work • Standardize successful implementations for team-wide use • Maintain shared components through testing, documentation, and consolidation • Identify and implement improvements to team processes • Reduce manual intervention required for correct releases • Address recurring problems by changing the underlying setup • Shift verification left by expanding automated checks before QA • Run planning focused on work requiring decisions • Define review requirements and approval processes • Participate in Product, Design, and Engineering discussions and communicate team constraints early • Handle critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA • Support early-career engineers with meaningful work and learning time • Write and review code while remaining hands-on • Participate in technical interviews and a real-codebase assessment

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including time leading a team or owning a major surface while staying hands-on • Rock solid Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work • Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing them, including what can't be covered by them • Something you introduced to a team that stuck after you stopped pushing it, and an honest account of what it cost to get there • Some comfort with asking people to change how they work and living with the resulting friction • A view on which changes need heavy review and which do not, argued from what the system does • Track record of building things the rest of the team actually used • Ability to describe how the team works with AI agents • Product design intuition, user empathy, and drive to push Android UI/UX beyond the specification • Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the specification • Excellent communication skills • Portfolio and LinkedIn links included with application • Bonus: Building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects • Bonus: Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS
