• Conduct criminal investigations into violations of the North Carolina Workers' Compensation Act • Assist with investigations of workers’ compensation fraud, employee misclassification, and failure to obtain or maintain workers’ compensation insurance • Respond to complaints received by email or phone • Identify statutory violations • Collect, analyze, and preserve evidence, including written and electronic documents and records • Interview and question individuals with relevant information • Complete accurate and detailed felony reports • Provide testimony during court proceedings • Maintain professional relationships with external and internal stakeholders • Attempt service of process of Industrial Commission Orders to Appear • Work with judicial officials and other law enforcement agencies throughout North Carolina • Travel to various locations within the central region of North Carolina to conduct investigations
• Must currently, or within 12 months of the position start date, reside in Cabarrus, Davie, Davidson, Forsyth, Guilford, Mecklenburg, Randolph, or Rowan County, North Carolina • Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressive law enforcement including investigative and case preparation experience in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience • Must meet certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission or have the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment, including any annual training requirement • Current working knowledge of relevant criminal statutes and case law, including arrest, search and seizure, and statutes and case law applicable to criminal investigations • Demonstrated experience performing and conducting criminal investigations as a Detective or Special Agent • Demonstrated experience in proper techniques for conducting criminal investigations, apprehending criminal suspects, and supporting prosecution of individuals and/or corporate entities committing crimes • Demonstrated experience gathering and analyzing evidence and presenting investigative findings in an organized manner for potential prosecution • Applicants must complete an online application using the APPLY button • Work history and credentials must be listed on the State Application; resumes in lieu of completed application information are not accepted • Academic degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions and will be verified • Criminal history checks may be conducted; applicants must accurately acknowledge criminal convictions • Applicants seeking Veteran's Preference must submit a DD Form 214
